digitalis media

about

digitalis media is about sharing a sense of awe of science. It's about using documentary film, writing and art/science projects to reach people, to inspire.

Still from the short film, 'The Rough Guide to the Brain', as seen on Current TV

My book, The Rough Guide to the Brain, was released in 2007 and, since then, I've been developing documentary projects, directing and filming several new broadcast films linked by the theme of consciousness (or lack of it).

I'm very interested in educational projects that successfully merge science, creativity and film, as demonstrated by my Wellcome Broadcast Development Award.

about Barry J Gibb

After a PhD in molecular biology, studying motor neurone disease, I moved onto other aspects of the nervous system, developing gene therapy techniques for Parkinson's disease. Following several further years at 'the bench' researching cell-cell communication in the brain, I decided it was time to explore other creative areas...

Now, I'm somewhere between a scientist and an artist. This mix allows me to enjoy the intellectual landscapes of science while developing new means of expressing the outcomes.

digitalis media uses words and film in an attempt to convey the wonder I experience daily at the machinations of this remarkable universe. To stimulate the mind, not just intellectually but through beautiful, moving and experimental imagery.

I am now working for The Wellcome Trust as their Science Multimedia Editor.

If you want to know more about my filmmaking approach, motivations and inspirations you can watch me here, being interviewed by Channel Four's FourDocs team...
